Until now, Google Search Console only showed search performance for websites. In July 2026 that boundary partially lifted — you can now track certain social media accounts' Google Search performance through the same tool.

What Are Platform Properties?

"Platform properties" is a new property type added to Search Console. Unlike a regular website property, it isn't tied to a domain — it's connected directly to your social media account, working as a separate, standalone property. That means you can use this feature by verifying just your Instagram or YouTube account, even without a website.

Which Platforms Are Supported?

Four platforms at launch: Instagram, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube. Facebook and LinkedIn aren't in the list yet — an important detail that contradicts what many people assume when they first hear about this. There's no word yet on when Google will add these two platforms.

What Does It Show?

The new property type offers a view similar to the classic Search Console "Performance" report: total clicks, impressions, and which post/video was triggered by which search query. Filtering and sorting options let you drill into the specific posts driving the most Google traffic. The feature has been rolling out gradually over several weeks since the July announcement — if it's not showing up in your account yet, it likely just hasn't reached you.

What Does This Mean for Agencies and Businesses?

  • Clearer channel attribution: Traffic that was previously ambiguous — "did this come from social or from search?" — can now be separated out. You can see directly how much search visibility an Instagram post has gained.
  • Content strategy data: Seeing which video/post titles drive search traffic on Google turns future content planning into a data-driven decision.
  • A new line item in agency reporting: For agencies offering social media management, there's now a concrete answer to "how does social media contribute to SEO."

As an agency that offers social media management and SEO together, we plan to bring this cross-channel visibility into our client reports — a new data source that lets us show the concrete SEO contribution of social media work.
